We have spent a certain amount of space in this blog, over the last couple of weeks, discussing how little a difference in size seems to make when it came to romance in postcard cartoons. We have considered the round man paired with the skinny woman, the skinny man and the round woman, and then the very tall man and the very short woman. We will now consider the very tall woman and the short man. Will THIS be too much for Cupid to overcome? Well, what do YOU think?

Yeah, love finds a way. In fact, he gives the impression that he PREFERS women about yea taller than he is, when involved in a dance that involves hugging.

I am getting the same vibe from Jock here, although his eyes suggest we are going to see him try out his vertical leap.

In fact, our couples seem prepared to make the same effort they did in postcards where HE was the giant. That smooch will NOT be denied.

Some of these giant ladies do fit into our round lady category, where we saw the same eagerness on the part of the smaller half of the romance. Alexander Sturm stated his own philosophy in an alphabet book, where he asked straight out “When a giant presents herself, what sane man would choose an elf”? (By the way, note that THIS romantic couple is engaged in something you seldom see people actually doing on postcards. They’re sending a postcard.)

And I hope you have noted that the eagerness is not all expressed by the man in these relationships.

Now, later this week, if we finally get around to it, we will examine whether marriage changes this relationship.

For now, though, let us leave them in the rosy glow of romance, without considering possible glitches to come in the future.

Since once again, the majority of cartoonists, though they urge us to chuckle at the contrast between halves of a mismatched couple, remind us that true love is not to be measured in inches. (every one of you who snickered is staying after class to transcribe the walls in the restrooms.)
